Rt. Hon. Dr Julian Lewis MP will talk about the Schneider Trophy and ‘Kink’ Kinkead.
The Coupe d’Aviation Maritime Jacques Schneider, commonly called the Schneider Trophy, was a trophy awarded annually (and later, biannually) to the winner of a race for seaplanes and flying boats. The Schneider Trophy is now held at the Science Museum, South Kensington, London.

TOUR OF THE MAYFLOWER THEATRE, SOUTHAMPTON ON THURSDAY 9 MARCH 2017
The Mayflower theatre is a Grade 2 listed theatre with a capacity of 2,300, the largest on the south coast and the third largest regional theatre in the country.
During the theatre tour we will learn about the history of the building from an experienced tour guide, and be able to explore the front of house areas and auditorium, seeing the beautiful architecture. We will then make our way backstage to see how the theatre operates behind the scenes. Please note that the tour does include a lot of stairs and is unsuitable for anyone with mobility issues.
Following the tour it will be time to relax and listen to a talk about the theatre past and present, before making our way to the Ovation Restaurant for lunch.
Programme
0945 Arrive at theatre Box Office for a prompt start at 10.00am
10 00 to 12.30 tour of theatre followed by a talk
1230 drinks (at own cost) followed by lunch in the Ovation Restaurant
2 Course Lunch Menu
The menu at the Ovation Restaurant is seasonal and will not be available until mid February. For information only a sample of the current menu is shown overleaf, but members wanting to go on the visit will be contacted before the day and asked to make their choices from what is available at that time.
Cost The cost of the theatre tour, talk and lunch is £30 per person.
The maximum number of people allowed on the tour is set at 30

Members need to be aware that SRCE does not have insurance cover for personal injury or loss to individuals attending events and they therefore attend any of the SRCE’s events at their own risk

The theatre is a short drive from both Junction 5 (Westbound) and Junction 3 (eastbound) of the M27. Follow signs to the City Centre.The theatre does not have its own parking. There is a large multi-storey car park within 5 minutes walk of the theatre, MSCP West Park Road SO15 1DQ. The charge for up to 5 hours is £5.30
Why not avoid the hassle and expense of car parking and use the train. Southampton Central Station is a 5 minute walk away when exiting from platform 1. Exit Station, cross over Blechynden Terrace, left into Wyndham Ct right into Commercial Rd.
Further detailed directions can be supplied by the organiser if required.
Sample menu This is the current two course winter menu which will changed before March, but is a guide to the type of food on offer

Soup of the day with toasted herb croutes, vegetable crisps and sour cream
BBQ chicken breast with melted cheese, sweet potato parmentier and guacamole
Pear and walnut salad with blue cheese, yoghurt, walnut praline and bagel crisp
Salmon tartar with cucumber, dill mayonnaise, toasted sour dough and pickled carrots

Pork cutlets with apple mash, braised red cabbage, cider gravy and honey glazed carrots
Chicken schnitzel, panko coated with almonds, parsley potato and cucumber tzatziki
Thai green curry with king prawns, bamboo shoots, water chestnuts, jasmine rice and prawn crackers
Potato gnocchi with wild mushrooms fricassee, pesto and mange tout
Veggie cottage pie, mash, carrots, peas, tomatoes and glazed Manchego
